Dear New Jersey Chapter Members:
It is with a great deal of honor that I serve as your President.
I consider myself extremely fortunate to serve with
such a qualified and diverse Executive Board.
Former New Jersey State President Maldonado, the
current National East Coast Vice-President, has
created a solid foundation for this organization. It
is incumbent upon us to build upon this foundation
and generate new initiatives.
The New Jersey Latino Peace Officers Association is
part of an impressive and praiseworthy national
movement by Latino law enforcement personnel,
serving at all levels of the criminal justice
system. This movement maintains a commitment to the
improvement of the Latino community throughout the
country. Similarly, we seek to augment the number of
Latino officers in the field of law enforcement. We
also seek to foster a healthy and productive working
relationship with the community we serve.
During my term our members have attended convention and training
seminars in Las Vegas, Nevada and San Juan, Puerto
Rico. Both training conventions have been
instructive and insightful experiences. It was
interesting to learn that no matter where in the
continental United States you may reside, Latino
officers continue to share similar struggles.
I have set forth a many goals for our organization; however I am
seeking input from you as well. The non-profit arena
is not a spectator sport; your participation is not
only encouraged, but an essential component to our
overall success. We must all work in concert
towards making these initiatives a reality.
My vision and goals upon taking reins of the New Jersey Chapter
were to increase membership, increase the number of
chapters, the securing an office location, and to
work towards the self-sufficiency of our chapter. I
can report to you that most of my goals have been
met. To that end, I want to thank my very capable
and energetic executive board.
We will continue to increase participation in the communities we
serve through different community outreach programs
such as scholarships, community partnerships, and
the children identification program. In order to
achieve these goals we have been applying for
funding from private and government agencies.
We were awarded a grant from the Ronald McDonald’s House of
Charities to improve the conditions of a little
league park in Irvington. This project will not
only serve as a crime prevention tool but also as a
means to make kids proud of their park. This and
other similar projects, have aided in our
organization to be recognized as a problem-solver
and facilitator to the community we serve.
I thank all of you for your anticipated support and I look forward
to the exciting challenges ahead. Feel free to
contact me via email or via phone to discuss ideas
you may want to bring forth to our
organization.
Sincerely,
Hector Ramos
